All: [no words, just laughter]

This toy sniper dried up and lost its shape within a few days after Liza made it from fresh banana stem. In our homes, we can easily make these toys again from plants around us (slightly harder in Singapore). Unlike the bamboo toy guns in our Home, this banana stem sniper is not able to shoot actual pellets, but posed with only in play.

This banana stem sniper was made during our ‘SayurXmas: Banana Xchange’ event (12/12/2021). Across two iterations of the ‘Banana Xchange’ event, we exchanged different ways of making toy guns from banana stem, with different shapes and firing ranges. The designed programme invited participants to harvest banana leaves from a garden and exchange ways of wrapping and serving foods in their cultures. In the presence of whole banana trees that were “free-for-all” to take down however (courtesy of Michelle), participants were inspired to recreate toys and instruments from their childhood too.
