Man Wei: I googled mote hpaat htote and it says it's usually sticky rice with grated coconut too? Or is this the way you make and fold it in Chin State?

Themboi: Many different types. If you go Myanmar all you'll see. With coconut also have... With banana fruit also have. Kim just made using plain rice flour with some brown sugar.

Ince: This is my first time trying, it taste like nian gao [Chinese new year's cake made from glutinous rice flour and brown sugar]!

Man Wei is from Singapore. Themboi is from Chin State, Myanmar. Ince is from Waingapu, Sumba Timur, Indonesia.

The mote hpaat htote in our Home was shared at an end-of-year picnic in 2021 with our Kampung Garden members, after a cyanotype workshop. Each person cooked and packed their own favourite foods from home to share, mixing in some homegrown produce. There was plenty of food to go around and pack home. Mote hpaat htote was one of the easier ones to pack, already wrapped in banana leaves. It was a special meal shared by three of the co-curators, where everyone was trying the Burmese sweet for the first time (going for seconds too).
